Faze Remain Unbeatable, Take Down Ultra 3–1
In the battle between the Call of Duty League’s two best squads, Atlanta Faze yet again came out on top. The last two matchups between these two both went to Game 5 with Faze coming out on top each time. Despite the 3–1 scoreline in the Stage 4 Winners Finals, Ultra went toe to toe with the CDL’s top team over the course of the series yet again.
To start things off though, Faze absolutely dominated, winning 250–91 on Raid Hardpoint. Simp posted a godly performance of 30 kills to only 11 deaths against professional Call of Duty’s second-best team. If you didn’t know it before this game, Simp and Abezy are easily the best SMG duo in the game. Anything Ultra could do, Faze was simply able to do better.
However, in Game 2, Toronto flipped the script. Ultra raced out to a 5–0 round lead, including a clutch defuse by Cammy in a 1v1 situation against Simp. Cammy’s superstar season continued with a 10–2 performance, garnering almost 1700 damage as Ultra closed out the map 6–1.
Game 3 was the defining point of the series, as well as being one of the best games played in the CDL on the year. In Round 1 Ultra bullied Faze, winning their defensive side with 12 lives remaining. In Round 2, Ultra was seconds away from the final tick on point B to win the round before Faze conducted a full team wipe and prevented Toronto from touching the zone again. Cammy had some big plays in Round 3 to help his squad go up 2–1 in round count. Toronto had the opportunity to close out the game in Round 4, but Arcitys was able to clear the zone as the only man left standing, allowing time to expire and force a Round 5. Faze made quick work of Ultra in the final round, clutching up to take the 2–1 series lead. Atlanta was outslayed in the game, with three Ultra players dropping over 30 kills, including Cammy with a 33–26 performance and a 31–23 stat line from Insight. Ultra certainly wish they could have this one back.
Moscow hosted the Game 4 Hardpoint between these juggernauts. Cellium had one of the plays of the year with a four-piece toward the later part of the game. Ultra was able to put together some kills late to bring the score basically to a tie. It all came down to the H3 Hardpoint with Faze up 230–220. Faze was able to get set up first at the point and locked it down to get the game and series win. Cellium had his best game of the series, going 28–19 with over 4500 damage as Atlanta won their 9th straight match.
Atlanta Faze advances to the Stage 4 Grand Final, the only team to have appeared in every Major final this season. Toronto Ultra awaits the winner of the Dallas Empire-Optic Chicago series in the Elimination Finals.
